Animal Control Officer

Key Responsibilities - Investigates complaints regarding nuisance, stray, uncontrolled, dangerous or diseased animals. - Conducts investigations of complaints regarding animal cruelty and neglect; investigates animal bites, arranging for appropriate identification and quarantine. - Explains local laws, codes and ordinances relating to the care and control of animals to pet owners - Issues citations for violations of applicable regulations; patrols assigned areas operating company vehicles. - Captures stray and unlicensed animals for impounding; removes dead animals from public roadways; transports injured animals and provides for their care. - May testify in court regarding citations and disposition of complaints. - Operates humane traps, mobile radios, cellular phones, and related animal control tools and equipment. - Identifies basic symptoms of common animal diseases and recommends veterinary medical care of isolation to the animal owner. - Maintains records of work performed and materials used. - Ability to lift 100+ lbs, work outdoors/in varying conditions, handle emotional situations, and stand/walk for extended periods. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge and Skills - Behavior and handling of common domestic animals. - Methods and equipment used in the care and control of animals. - State and local laws and ordinances pertaining to the proper care and control of animals. - Safety practices related to the work. - Basic symptoms and behavior associated with rabies and other common diseases of animals. - Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained. - Communicating effectively in oral and written forms. - Handling and controlling animals humanely and effectively under stressful or emergency circumstances. - Identifying symptoms and behaviors associated with rabies and other common domestic animal diseases. - Maintaining accurate and legible records and preparing basic reports - Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines Education and Experience: High School Education/GED; AND one (1) year of experience with animals in a shelter, vet clinic or animal control function; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must obtain certification as Animal Control Officer and Euthanasia Technician within six (6) months of date of employment Additional Valid driver’s license, clean background, reliable transportation.

Animal Care Lead

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care Leadership: and perform daily care for dogs and cats, including feeding, watering, cleaning kennels/cages, grooming, enrichment, health monitoring, and basic medical treatments (e.g., administering medications as directed). Animal Control Officer Duties: Respond to animal control calls, safely handle and impound animals, conduct intake evaluations, temperament assessments, and support public interactions regarding lost/found pets.
  • Operational Leadership: Lead and mentor shelter staff/volunteers, coordinate daily tasks, ensure facility cleanliness and disease control protocols, manage inventory of supplies/food, and assist with intake, adoptions, and record-keeping. Team & Community Support: Train new team members, promote a supportive environment, and help with outreach to boost adoptions (e.g., photo stories, flyers, events).
  • Multi-Area Flexibility: Step into various roles as needed, including animal control calls, adoption support through community events, and transport assistance.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe, sanitary environment; observe and report health/behavior issues; follow all policies for humane handling. Qualifications & Requirements
  • Self-Starter Mindset: Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative in a fast-paced shelter setting.
  • Animal Experience: Hands-on experience caring for dogs and cats in a shelter, rescue, or veterinary environment preferred. Strong animal handling skills essential.
  • Animal Control Knowledge: Experience or willingness to train as an Animal Control Officer;
  • Physical & Emotional Fitness: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors/in varying conditions, handle emotional situations, and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Schedule Availability: Must be available Saturday through Tuesday (full days). Flexibility for occasional additional hours or emergencies. Other
  • Preferred: Leadership experience, basic veterinary knowledge, and computer skills for record-keeping.

Kennel Technician

Daily Responsibilities- Cleaning & Sanitation: Cleans and disinfects cages, runs, and common areas using specialized solutions to prevent disease.- Feeding & Care: Provides precise portions of food and fresh water, noting any changes in eating habits.- Exercise & Enrichment: Walks dogs, manages play groups, and provides enrichment or outdoor time for cats and dogs.- Health Monitoring: Observes animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and reports them to medical staff. - Medical Support: Administer vaccinations and dispense medication with proper record keeping
Qualifications & Requirements- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.- Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand, bend, or walk for long shifts.
